Queensland veterans honoured with new grants programs

The Queensland Government is delivering more support for Queensland veterans, with a new grants program funding upgrades to memorials and community events.

The inaugural Honouring our Veterans program will deliver $6 million of grants over four years, to help recognise the contribution of Queensland veterans.

Queensland is home to the largest population of veterans in Australia with more than 163,000 current and former Australian Defence Force personnel living in the State.

Grants can be put toward building improvements, creating or refurbishing war memorials, avenues of honour and memorial gardens, and the purchase of equipment, as well as events, activities, and initiatives which acknowledge and honour our veterans.

The Queensland Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland veterans, with $26.4 million in the 2025-26 Budget to honour and commemorate the contribution of veterans and to support veterans and their families.

The Queensland Government is also delivering the State’s first Veterans and Veterans’ Families Strategy, with consultation to inform the strategy for targeted support for veterans and their families in key areas such as transition to civilian life and health and wellbeing currently underway.

Premier and Minister for Veterans David Crisafulli said the Government was delivering support for veterans as part of its commitment for a fresh start for Queensland.

“Our veterans have given so much, and it’s now time for us to give back with real support that makes a difference,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“This is about delivering more support for our veterans, with practical measures including events and activities, as well as enhancing memorials.

“Our veterans should be supported, connected and backed by the Government every step of the way.

“While we are delivering a plan for veterans, there is much more to be done to deliver for Queensland’s future, and we remain committed to delivering the fresh start we promised.”
