The Queensland Government will deliver new East-West transport connections on the Gold Coast, with two new metro-style GC Surfer services, as part of an investment in generational transport infrastructure for 2032 and beyond.

New GC Surfer routes between Nerang and Broadbeach, and between Robina and Miami, will help deliver missing East-West transport connections, connecting the Light Rail on the East to the heavy rail on the West of the Coast, as well as key sports venues, education and tourism destinations.

The Broadbeach to Nerang service will connect People First Stadium, the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre and the Gold Coast Convention Centre, while the Miami to Robina service will connect Robina Town Centre and Bond University.

To support the Broadbeach to Nerang metro-style service, the Queensland Government will deliver major upgrades to Nerang–Broadbeach Roads, with road widening, additional lanes, and a new transport station at Carrara Stadium.

Nerang-Broadbeach Road upgrades will include:

• Widening Nerang-Broadbeach Road from four to six lanes between Nielsens Road and Gooding Drive, easing congestion and improving travel reliability for residents and visitors.
• Widening Dunlops Canal Bridge at Broadbeach.
• Extending bus lanes and signalising Cocos Crescent intersection.
• A new transport station and pedestrian overpass at People’s First Stadium, ensuring the safe movement of pedestrians between the Carrara Sport Precinct and adjacent bus stops and parking.
• Improving active transport facilities along the corridor to enhance safety and connectivity for people walking and bike riders.

The East-West link builds on the previously announced GC Surfer from Robina to Coolangatta via Burleigh Heads and the extension of Gold Coast Light Rail to Biggera Waters connecting Harbour Town.

The Queensland Government will also preserve the corridor to Gold Coast Airport for a future heavy rail connection.

These investments sit alongside an extensive pipeline of public transport upgrades, including Logan to Gold Coast Faster Rail. The Premier will shortly reveal the road upgrades to complement the public transport elements of the Gold Coast Transport Plan.

The Queensland Government is building Queensland’s future, delivering the GC Surfer metro-style services and light rail extension ahead of the 2032 Games.

Premier David Crisafulli said the Government was delivering generational infrastructure for the Gold Coast, exactly as promised.

“We are expanding the Gold Coast transport network with the missing East-West frequent links from Nerang to Broadbeach and Robina to Miami,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“This is not only about getting Gold Coasters home sooner and safer, but also about delivering generational transport infrastructure for 2032 and beyond.

“These are the next projects in a plan to deliver generational road and rail for the growing Gold Coast, to get you home sooner and safer.”

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said preserving the rail corridor to the airport was about planning for the long-term of the Gold Coast.

“Under the Gold Coast Transport Plan we are preserving the rail corridor through from Varsity Lakes through to the Gold Coast Airport for future upgrades,” Minister Mickelberg said

“We are delivering the transport to make it easier for commuters to get to work, students to where they study, and tourists from one end of the Gold Coast to the other – and it’ll mean more cars off the road and less time in traffic.

“Best of all, the Permanent 50 Cent Fares mean it’ll be just 50 cents to get anywhere on the Gold Coast, or even to Brisbane.”
