Queensland is a state of many regions, each with their own unique character. With such a widespread population, it’s important to strengthen our regions and build resilient communities.

The Government is planning now for the future, and our vision is to connect communities and spread the benefits of growth right across the state.

Regionalisation Strategy

We are working with the community to plan for the future of each of our regions. The Queensland Regionalisation Strategy is a significant step forward in gathering ideas, setting out strategies for driving investment and development, taking growth pressures off the south east and ensuring that all regions are great places to live, work and visit.

Queensland Infrastructure Plan

Helping communities realise the benefits of our natural assets and economic growth is a vital part of planning for the future. The Queensland Infrastructure Plan outlines priority projects to meet the needs of our growing regions.

Supporting the Regionalisation Strategy, the plan sets a strategic platform to guide planning, prioritisation and sequencing of infrastructure. Strategic investment will improve productivity, economic growth and standards of living.

Townsville Futures Plan

The 2010 Queensland Growth Summit looked at ways of building stronger regions and sharing growth opportunities, and the Townsville Futures Plan is one outcome. The plan outlines a vision for Townsville – a city that is vibrant, integrated, connected and positioned as the second capital city of Queensland.

The document identifies six themes that are fundamental to the development of a prosperous second capital. They are: infrastructure and services, business and innovation, people, lifestyle, image and marketing, and leadership and decision-making.

Community consultation

A series of Way to Grow forums were held across Queensland in August 2011, giving members of the community an opportunity to comment on the draft strategies for the future of our regions.
